This winter Adeline decided that she wanted to donate her hair to Locks of Love. After finding out that her Grandpa Webster was going to go through treatments to make him feel better and knowing that his hair would fall out, we talked and she started asking questions. This was her way of helping out kids her age that are going through the same thing as her Grandpa Webster. We couldn't be prouder.

Second Grade - oh my!

So after the first full day of 2nd grade, Adeline lost her homework. I write this not because she lost her homework (which eventually was found just before her and Dad left for school) but that her actions as a result of losing her homework were new to us. Usually, we would hear many whines and complaints of doing it for her and shear caos that its lost. No, we just saw her looking everywhere, even going to the garage knowing that she was out there with it to check. We heard no whining, no complaints. Ahhh, maybe 7 and 2nd grade is THE year. Ok, ok...I'll take it day by day!

You're now 7 and the time just flies by anymore. A little story for us to remember ....

Yesterday was Saturday (day before your birthday). We were having a garage sale and you were pleading that you were old enough to walk to the library to return books and check-out new ones. The library is a mere 1-1/2 blocks away, crossing 1-side street. Immediately I said no and off you went inside. You came back with a note that said "Trust Me Mommy" and 2-nickels taped to the backside (not sure the significance but anyway..).

I reluctantly said yes.

I walked to the end of the drive with you and watch you walk towards the library and in the distance you turned around just before crossing the street with the biggest grin of proudness on your face. I was proud too - of Adeline and of myself for letting her "go" to the library.

Of course I was counting the minutes for her to come back. And she did come back in about 7 minutes with more books, which she read all of them tonight at bedtime.

Oh how time moves too quickly..

Beach Vacation 2011

This year was the year for the family vacation to the beach. We went over the Memorial Day holiday for 5-days.

A few firsts for the kids - sand, ocean, airplanes!! Garrett enjoyed the airplane and wanted to know when we would "Blast Off"!! Adeline thankfully didn't get sick on the plane (car ride from Sea World was another story).

It was the best vacation thus far! We all loved it!

Tumblebus 2011

The annual Tumblebus Show 2011 at the RiverPlex was yesterday in Peoria, IL. By way of background, Tumblebus goes to all the daycare facilities in Peoria and teaches the little kiddos tumbling skills over the course of the year once a week. The cherry on top is the annual show.

Adeline participated during her years at PALs and now so is Garrett. Well, let's just say Garrett did participate though he was more just physically there and received a trophy. You won't believe it but yes, he had stage fright!

We've had a great weekend and topped off with a super Mother's Day. After church, we traveled into Peoria to go to the Peoria Zoo. It has been a while since we last went and the Africa exhibit is amazing. We then went for mexican food and to Home Depot for flowers for the hanging baskets.

We had a busy day today. The whole family was home for Good Friday. It was a very rainy, soggy day but we made the best of it. We saw Rio in 3D, went shopping and colored eggs!

Just before bedtime last night the kids were quiet, which typically means they are up to something. Not always but usually. I crept upstairs to hear Adeline reading to Garrett in her room. I quickly grabbed the camera and got back in time to click a few photos. They can be so sweet with each other!!

Who doesn't love a Happy Meal. Better yet, Ronald McDonald himself! Last Saturday, I treated the kids to McDonald's after swim lessons and they were surprised to meet Ronald McDonald in person. Garrett wasn't too sure but he came around (sort of). Adeline was great and did a few tricks too.

Another trip to the ER and stay in the hospital. This time in Burlington, IA. Garrett had a little too much fun and managed to fall down on the dance floor. No one really saw what happened but symptoms began very similar to those from November and off we went. So he's now had his second concussion since November.

He's doing much better after getting checked out and sleeping it off. He was back at school today.

3 hospital trips in 5 months, not a record I'm looking forward to repeating!

Just a quick note to say HAPPY NEW YEAR!

This year, we took extra time off between Christmas and the New Year. With the way the holidays fell, it just worked out. The kiddos spent some great, quality time with Grandma and Papa Webster and Mommy and Daddy headed to Galena. As usual it was odd for it to be so quiet and to sleep in! We enjoyed the few days to reconnect and not surprisingly were ready to see the kids after a few days.

New Years Eve was low key as we like it best.

As always, our family continues to be blessed each year. Each year, Christmas seems to be the "best ever". This year was no different.

Now...just what to do with all the "old" Christmas extravaganza items that have been quickly replaced by the "new" extravaganza items? Well, some we recycle. Meaning we save the favorites for a rainy or snowy day and they're "new" again. Others, it's just time for them to have a new home.

Tonight marks another first in the Webster house....Adeline's first slumber party at her friend's house. She couldn't be more excited! Immediately after coming home from school she packed her bag with clothes, jammies, lotion, toothbrush/paste, floss, robe....everything!

Our neighbor has the rear apartment and while we at our house receive HUNDREDS of trick-or-treaters, she only receives a handful. This year she made some pretty cool cupcakes!

For the church Halloween party, I made eyeballs! The kids' favorite powdered donuts, m&m's and icing. Pretty cool!

Well...what is new??

Adeline is 6. School has started - first grade. She can tie her own shoes. She can read and loves school. She is obsessed with peanut butter - to the point that we only let her have it at one meal a day. Seriously....peanut butter to Adeline is like pizza to Kurt. She is playing soccer this fall and going to the Y in Farmington for tumbling. She can do a 1-handed cartwheel and is flexible like no other. Getting close to doing a back bend by herself. She loves to ride the 4-wheeler with Daddy and prefers to go FAST!

Garrett is almost 3. Just ask him, he'll tell you...."my birthday coming up...october 5". He'll order his own meal at a restaurant...."me want this" or "me want chicken nuggets, apples and chocolate milk". He wears big boy underwear - day AND night. He loves his blankie and monkey at bedtime. He loves to ride the 4-wheeler with Daddy but prefers to go s-l-o-w!

Kurt and I have been married 9 years! WOW, time flies when you're having fun, and jobs, kids, house, etc!! We love it and wouldn't change a thing!

Why is it so hard to "catch up"??

Really, it never happens. We all muddle along attempting to keep our heads above water and then bam something happens and everything is upside down again. This is life, right.

Our upside down has been Mom out of commission Tuesday with the flu and Dad now out of commission Wednesday and still through tonight (though getting a little better). Of course, the rest of the school drop off, work, pick-up, soccer game, school open house, dinner, homework, baths, stories, garbage night stuff still doesn't end which I might add are really the fun parts (well work is most of the time).

So back to why is it so hard to "catch up"? Take this blog for instance....I always feel so guilty that I don't get current posts up of our recent activities with photos to boot. I think we (ok I, Mom) would post more if I just spent 15 minutes figuring out how to post via my blackberry. Though if it involves texting, no dice. Mom's work smartphone doesn't have that glorious function of texting aka work won't pay for it. Anywho....facebook is so much easier though more difficult to put out there stories to journal your family's life. But really, if we didn't have either wouldn't that be simplier too?

I just hope and pray that one day this will get easier. I am reminded that likely that's not the case as they get older and are more involved but we'll take it as it comes.

Busy Summer so Far

We've been so busy and so bad about updating the blog - well mom has.

Adeline is spending the summer at PALS with Garrett enjoying her time with her former classmates in the school age program. She lost her first tooth Saturday, July 24 while in St. Louis for a long weekend and the Porter's Annual Hog Roast. Not just the hog roasted - everyone did, it was so hot outside. First grade starts next month (yikes!) and start up of tumbling likely. The Elmwood location closed at the end of the season in May so we're looking to Farmington or Canton to keep her busy. She loves it!

Garrett is talking more and more every day and wearing big boy underwear now! He's not always successful but mostly. My little man.

There's been a few practices and so far Adeline loves t-ball. Games start in June every Thursday night at 6p and Saturday morning at 9:30a (except 6/5, which is the Strawberry Festival).

Well we have a hole in the ceiling....

Rain all weekend and the ceiling in the living room Saturday night was the worst yet. Seems like it is finally time for us to fix the roof at the bump out and the ceiling. It just looks awful. Thanks to Kurt's mom and dad for coming to visit us Sunday on short notice to help with the kids and move furniture. It was much appreciated!!

Coincidentally might be the time now for paint and curtians. Only 3-years after moving in, not bad huh?!

Case - Burlington, IA

Last Sunday, Kurt and his dad (Greg) and Garrett went to Case plant tour. Greg is now a retiree of Case. This is Garrett's favorite - tractors of any kind. The first thing Garrett does is buckle up! This is now a "Safety First" flyer all over the plant. Isn't this gerat!!

We are crib free!

We've disassembled Adeline's bunk bed and made given each of the kids a twin bed. After 2-weeks of Garrett not sleeping all night and his interest in big sis' bed told us to just go ahead and give him his big boy room. We'll post pictures at some point when the rooms aren't too much of a disaster. He loves it and the best part is that he is back to sleeping all night.

Now...for the binkie! We have only 1-left. Then that is it.

Well, 50% of the family has a cold....Mommy and Garrett. It's the middle of January and the first sickness of the cold/flu season. I consider this a success.

The excitement though is diminished substantially by clouded heads, hacking coughs, sneezing, stuffy nose, runny nose, aches and so on. TLC, tea (for mom) and orange juice or grape orange juice (in Garrett's terms.....which means apple juice - go figure). Mommy just wants to go to bed.

Daddy is super Daddy as always. When Garrett is up in the middle of the night, coughing and crying away, Daddy to the rescue so Mommy can sleep. Side note...he does this even when I'm not sick. He even does dishes....where did that come from... He is the best. We're blessed. We love you, I love you.

Busy, Busy...

We've had such a busy weekend. We are so blessed to have a great family and to be so close that the kids can spend time with all of them. Grammy came to visit and watch the kids Saturday and off to Lomax we went on Sunday. Thank goodness for 3-days and for a 4-day work week this week! We've got a long time until any vacation time so we need to get focused on work and the nights and weekends with the kids.

Adeline proudly counted to 100 over the weekend. It is amazing to see her grow up. As much as we don't really like the kids growing up it is neat to witness and be in this next stage of their development.

Speaking of different stage....we will be out of diapers in 2010! How awesome is that?! It is an instant salary increase!!

Garrett is more and more interested in the potty. We're not rushing it but encouraging him if he chooses. He's come down with a cold or something. Running our typical protocol of albuterol treatments. We went to Peds After Hours tonight to check his oxygen levels per Pediatrician's orders. It was 94%, not great but not awful either. Keep on doing what we're doing we were told.

As with any new year comes "New Year's Resolutions"....ours, well mine for now, is to simplify things, have less "stuff", post more to this blog and this is more for work but, be rid of lots of paper filing.

So far, I have 5-stacks of paper sitting around me at our home desk. Not starting out so well. As resolutions go though, it's a start. Oh yeah, we still have the traditional resolutions of eat better and exercise more....typing is strenuous you know!

How fun is it to watch Kindergartners and 1st Graders play soccer????

The answer is very fun! It's a hoot really!! Adeline was decent at defending. Goalie and offense needs some work. The best is when she went to coach and asked to be on offense. I don't know if she really knew what she was asking but hey she's learning soccer and sportsmanship, having fun and meeting new friends.

Games are every Saturday at the Canton YMCA. Times vary so if you're interested in some enjoyable times, give me a call or send an email and I'll share more details!

One of our favorite pictures. So I was looking for pictures to post and can you believe that just 8 years ago it was standard to use film for wedding photography. Really - 8 years isn't that long ago and now everything is digital and available with easy upload to the internet and all your family no matter where they live can view them, order them. Craziness!

We took a much needed vacation last week for a few days to Florida - just the 2-of us which we've never done before. We went to Clearwater and stayed at Sand Key Beach. We forgot what it was like to not have responsibility! Thanks to Mom and Dad Webster for watching the kiddies - all had a great time!

Busy, busy at our house with the final stretch until school starts. Only 1-week left of preschool for Miss Adeline....which also means Mom and Dad just got a raise, woohoo! She really is excited and the structured learning is much needed for her. A little too loose this summer at PALS but she and her friends had a lot of fun. Kurt is traveling quite a bit still but hopefully will end in 2-weeks when his project is complete. This will help our weekday schedules greatly.

Another fun filled 3-day weekend....

Friday we enjoyed Grammy, Papa Rick and the boys over for a cook-out, then off to the property for a bon-fire and fireworks.

Saturday (the 4th) was cool and rainy but the rain stopped for a short time for us to enjoy some fireworks.

Sunday was recovery, laundry, etc. We did get to the pool for a bit before dinner which is always fun!

We've got the camera back and so far so good, it's working. We also just bought a digital video camera. There's some cute clips that will be posted in the next few days from last week. Stay tuned.

We're doing well. Garrett has taken a liking to climbing into bed w/ Mom and Dad. He's too cute so...we let him. He's got an ear infection that we're treating now so I think this is why he's all of a sudden not sleeping as well. At least he's not a squirmer, kicker like Adeline!

Memorial Day Weekend

Love, love 3-day weekends. Wish they all could be like that! We had such a relaxing weekend with only a few scheduled committments. We didn't make it to the pool this weekend for opening weekend but we did head over to Grammy's house for the slip-and-slide (kids only :) me on a slip-and-slide...not a pretty site!) on Sunday I guess it was. Took Adeline to Night at the Museum 2 Monday in town. It was great. Kurt and I even were able to sit out on the front porch once the kids were in bed and enjoy a few beers!

Garrett we think is teething again. He's not eating well and a tad crankie (sp?). Adeline...well she's a tad sassy. Really need an intervention with the child!!

Busy week this week....work, travel, field trips, circus, birthday parties. Camera is in the fix-it shop so photos might be slim for a while. We're pulling out one of our older digital cameras but the batteries are frustrating.

Saturday Fun

The kids and I went to Wildlife this morning. Daddy was mowing (again!). It was such a great morning. The animals were active and the kids were excited to go for the first time this season. Even better was that it was right at opening and before the crouds.

2-things that bugged me though.....while at the playground Addie's sandle had fallen off her foot. She sat there whining and fussing for me to get it for her. I told her that when she could use her manners and kind words I would help her. After 5 minutes, another women (maybe 60s) came over and said "Honey, do you need your sandle? Here you go." I was astonished! The women never looked at me but I just politely said I appreciate her help but was wanting my child to use her manners and be respectful. Seriously!

Another thing was the kids were so excited to ride the train. We've been members of the park for 3 or so years now and they love this part. We didn't have tickets and you can just buy them there. There was no ticket person but the conductor (I guess it was) was there. He told us we had to wait for the person from the admissions gate to come over when they're not busy. We ended up leaving after 20 minutes. He couldn't have just taken my $3 and "bought" the tickets later? Seriously!

Off to Pumpy and Grandma Janet's tonight...cookout, bouncer, pond, 4-wheeler. Fun!

Mr. Garrett has been quite the monkey lately! :) He has been climbing on everything including his crib. Saturday, we decided to go ahead and remove the front rail of his crib. So long crib...hello toddler bed! He's done pretty good so far!

We had a great time in St. Louis this past weekend. Thank goodness we went too. The weather at home was some of the same....rain. It was warm and sunny in St. Louis. We all had a blast.

We all spent some time at the Porter's. Friday getting ready for Porter's first annual hog roast on Saturday. I'll spare the photos of the pig. We'll say that Addie was a vegetarian this weekend. She then realized that ham, bacon...all came from the pig.

Saturday morning we went to the Zoo. The highlight was the elephants. Garrett went bananas for them. Here's a cute video clip. Enjoy.

Oh this weekend has been busy. Aside from major emotional 4-year old melt downs, it was a good weekend.

Easter celebrations began last Sunday, Palm Sunday, at Grandpa Pumpy's and Grandma Janet's house. Then came our much needed 3-day weekend.

Friday, we all went shopping, got Mommy's hair cut, took naps and colored eggs!

Saturday - Adeline went to Lauren's birthday party at Fired Up in Peoria Heights. Any budding artists out there will love this place. That afternoon we hosted Easter dinner with Grammy, Papa Rick, JT, Dalton, Uncle Matt and his friend Steph. We had a great time and were able to enjoy the nice evening with the kids playing outside.

Sunday was busy with the Easter Bunny arrival at home, breakfast and egg hunt at church, and of course church. Naps (much needed for little miss) again for the fam this afternoon - except for Mommy, darn it. Off to the park in the afternoon for slides, swings and flying kites!

Sunday we went to the Civic Center and saw uncle Matt play basketball - way to go Matt! It was an exhibition game at the IHSA March Madness Experience which also had tons of games for the kids. Garrett was in heaven with all the balls!

Late November, 2008. Addie's "bird nest" she found at school. Obviously not a bird nest but nevertheless we still have the ball of grass in the garage awaiting (in her words) "a bucket of water so it can grow." Priceless.
